Employment counseling

Employment counseling is available to all individuals living in Slovakia who have been granted international protection. It is free of charge and lasts a maximum of one hour.

During the employment counseling session, our staff will discuss your employment aspirations, qualifications, and work experience.

We will also provide you with information about the current labor market situation, assist you in preparing your resume and cover letter, strategize your job search, prepare you for job interviews, and guide you through the entire job search process.

If needed, we can also arrange for assistance and accompaniment to job interviews.

Employment counseling includes the following main steps during the individual counseling session:

Skills and Qualifications Audit: The client undergoes an audit of skills and qualifications acquired in their country of origin. The client’s skills that exceed their formal qualifications are examined. Documents may be presented that will subsequently need to be translated or verified for authenticity. The client undergoes an initial interview to assess motivation, identify key skills (both formal and informal), create a written portfolio and resume that can be submitted to potential employers, and practice for job interviews. The social worker develops an action plan that includes steps for aligning skills and opportunities. The social worker also conducts job skills training (adhering to established working hours, punctuality, etc.).

Job Opportunity or Internship Search: Staff assist clients in seeking internship or job placement opportunities that will allow them to connect with the majority society and improve their prospects for future employment. Volunteering can also serve as a suitable starting point, enabling the acquisition of experience and subsequent paid employment. If a client secures a job, social assistance may be provided in concluding the employment contract or agreement. To facilitate workplace adaptation, project staff may communicate with employers by mutual agreement.

Assessment of Corresponding Opportunities: One of the social worker’s tasks is to make the client’s aspirations realistic, monitor indirect benefits, and often align skills, expectations, and opportunities, which involves establishing closer contact with the client for proper guidance.

Preventive Measures Against Exploitation or Non-Payment of Fair Wages: Clients are informed of their rights arising from applicable legislation.
